Building Information Modeling BIM is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models are files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a building or other built asset. Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse, electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, bridges, ports, tunnels, etc.
Video: Get inspired by projects Autodesk AEC customers have imagined, designed, and created around the world. (2:23 min.)
Advances in technology are ushering in a new era where connectivity is ubiquitous and data is at the center of every building and infrastructure project – informing every person, process and decision – enabling AEC firms of all sizes to reap greater ROI.
See how Autodesk is guiding designers, engineers, builders and owners to take advantage of these trends, and supercharge AEC projects, from planning and design, to construction and operation.
Building Information Modeling BIM delivers benefits throughout the building project lifecycle. Make better design decisions, build more efficiently, and manage and maintain building portfolios more effectively.
Reduce waste in construction projects with tools that help contractors and subcontractors improve construction planning, produce results faster, and finish projects on budget to increase profit margins.
Use BIM in any type of civil infrastructure project to create visualizations for stakeholder approval, develop 3D models to identify problems before hand-off, and deliver projects on time and on budget.
BIM is used to support the lifecycle of the assets used to produce oil and natural gas. Owner operators also use intelligent data (BIM) for operational efficiencies and compliance. In addition, engineering, procurement, and construction companies can enhance project quality, and minimize costs and schedules.
Using BIM can improve performance and data quality in utility projects. Furthermore, it improve service through better stakeholder collaboration and process efficiency, and additionally safe, reliable data access.
Start process plant projects quickly with intelligent P&ID and 3D modeling. BIM for plant design is also known as intelligent plant modeling. In fact it supports multidisciplinary collaboration and delivery of an effective plant model for plants. This includes both inside industrial buildings and plants outside building walls.
